consolation prize

If there is a silver lining to what should be uninterrupted nice San Francisco Bay Area weather having taken a sudden turn to the chilly and intermittently moist (not to mention to a job with irretrievably strange and unavoidably variable hours), it is the occasional moment such as this.
I tweeted earlier this evening about a spectacular rainbow that made its presence known over the bay at around 6:30 this evening; almost immediately upon hitting ‘send,’ poof. Gone. But apparently, explanation for the prompt disappearance is probably due to orders having been issued for it to make way for a yet more spectacular example of its kind, which summarily appeared about twenty minutes later. It was indeed quite the spectacle, the rainbow, and the crush of activity that ensued. Diners got up from their meals to head out onto the bayside walkway to pose for pictures with the stunning surprise backdrop. A few staff members (efficiently, with dispatch) did the same. Ironically, there was a professional photographer on the floor for a good three or four hours tonight capturing shots of the dining room and of various specialty dishes. He, too, took notice, and afforded himself a brief diversion from the job of taking pictures to redirect his attention to snagging a few of the special du jour.
